US Presidential Dollars Value

MY father-in-law calls my son this morning and says he saw on the news that new US presidential George Washington dollar has increased to 9$ in value. Is there any truth to this?

If it did it was only for 2 reasons: either the bases metals rose in price or the dealer is passing along costs to the end consumer...

There is no truth in that statement whatsoever!

You can buy rolls of 25 on ebay for the very low $30's + a few bucks shipping.

I buy and rathole 2 rolls of each as they are issued. Might be worth something some day.

I did that for the first year. Plus I made sure to get one of each mintmark. So I have 2 rolls of D's and 2 rolls of P's for each of the first 4. It got to be a bit much so I figure, if anything is worth something, it'll be the first year's worth.

What are those made of? Zinc? LOL I love how they promote the #hit out of those at the mint and the post office as if they are a great savings plan or will have any real value down the road. Almost like their worthless state quarters gimmick.

Those look nice, but they seem horribly priced.

Now this is downright funny...the $1 coins they are trying to pass of actually have less intrinsic value than nickels!

1946-2008 Nickel $0.0702632
2007-2008 Presidential Dollar $0.0668137
(Metal Composition: 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, 2% nickel)

The 1 oz .999 Gold Buffalo Proofs looked expensive at $799 a year ago, too. Of course you could buy them cheaper on ebay at the time from folks needing the cash to spend.

They are only worth what someone will pay for them. If you will pay $9 for one, well, I have a sealed box to sell you!!!

I don't really see these as ever being worth very much more than their face value, but I still have a box stashed away.

Come to think of it, mine have decreased in value. 10 months ago, my sealed box of $1,000 would buy me an ounce and a half of gold. Now that same box will barely buy an ounce on a good day.

The 1999 Silver Proof Set offers a good return on investment ... something like 500% to 600% (5-6 times cost). I would sell mine, but alas I just have the one and it would make the rest of my collection a little feeble (not unlike my cent collection missing the 1909 VDB-S).
